Fluid Topology and Urban Change
This project investigates irregular transformations within Manhattan’s grid, focusing on how streets, infrastructures, and historical conditions disrupt its otherwise homogeneous structure. Areas such as Canal Street, Tribeca, and the Holland Tunnel reveal moments where the grid is fractured, producing unique spatial and typological variations.
Building on this, the project reintroduces hidden hydrological systems—such as former canals, streams, and wetlands—as active agents in reshaping the city. Through simulations of tidal change, sedimentation, and erosion, water becomes a driving force that reconfigures the grid into a fluid and adaptive urban system, proposing a new relationship between infrastructure and environmental processes.
