보이지 않는 네트워크, 드러나는 영향
이 논문은 인간의 소통을 중심으로 도시와 그 안을 순환하는 데이터의 관계를 탐구한다. 사진 기반 소셜 네트워크인 인스타그램을 분석하여, 모바일 기기를 통해 도시가 지속적으로 촬영되고 픽셀화되는 과정 속에서 도시 인식이 어떻게 변화하는지를 살펴본다.

도시 속 데이터는 보이지 않는 형태로 떠다니는 것처럼 보이지만, 실제로는 이를 가능하게 하는 물리적 인프라가 존재하며, 사람들의 경험 공유를 통해 끊임없이 재생산된다. 이러한 디지털 이미지의 축적은 도시를 새로운 방식으로 해석하게 만들지만, 동시에 과도한 정보의 유입은 피로와 스트레스를 유발한다.

이에 따라 본 연구는 데이터의 과잉으로부터 벗어날 수 있는 ‘데이터 쉘터’를 제안한다. 이 공간은 데이터 흐름을 차단하거나 정제하여 사용자에게 일시적인 단절과 휴식을 제공하며, 디지털 환경과 인간 인식 사이를 조율하는 새로운 건축적 역할을 제시한다.


Invisible Networks, Visible Effects

This thesis examines the relationship between the city and the data that circulates within it, particularly through human communication. By analyzing Instagram as a photo-based social network, the project investigates how urban perception is transformed as physical space is continuously captured, fragmented, and pixelated through mobile devices.

Although data appears to drift invisibly across the city, it relies on a hidden physical infrastructure that enables its transmission and constant reproduction. As individuals share images of their experiences, the city is reinterpreted through layers of digital representation. However, this continuous flow of information also results in an excess of unwanted data, leading to sensory overload and fatigue.

In response, the thesis proposes a data shelter—an architectural intervention designed to filter, reduce, and temporarily disconnect users from overwhelming data streams. This “data-clean” space offers a moment of relief, redefining architecture as a mediator between digital environments and human perception.
