Digital–Physical Architecture Studio (DPAS) explores how architectural ideas are conceived, developed, and realized. Rather than remaining as abstract thoughts or standardized images, ideas are advanced through representation, making, experimentation, and feedback, revealing the potential of architecture in the movement between the digital and the physical.

The studio engages with a wide range of tools—drawing, model-making, digital fabrication, and AI—but no single technology is the focus. Instead, we emphasize the process of transforming abstract concepts into architectural expression and examining how they can be implemented in practice. Tools are means to enable and expand ideas, not ends in themselves.

Our scope extends beyond architectural design to include public projects, exhibitions, film, landscape, and art. At DPAS, we value process over product, and attitude and thought over technology, encouraging students to translate ideas into tangible outcomes.

건축매체·제작연구실(DPAS)은 건축 아이디어가 어떻게 구상되고, 발전하며, 구현되는지를 탐구합니다. 아이디어를 추상적 사고나 표준화된 이미지에 머무르게 하지 않고, 표현·제작·실험·피드백의 과정을 통해 디지털과 실물의 경계를 오가며 건축의 가능성을 드러냅니다.

연구실은 드로잉, 모형 제작, 디지털 페브리케이션, 인공지능(AI) 등 다양한 도구를 활용하지만, 특정 기술 자체를 목적으로 삼지 않습니다. 중요한 것은 추상적 개념을 건축적 표현으로 전환하고, 그것이 실제로 구현되는 방식을 실험하는 과정에 있습니다. 도구는 아이디어를 확장시키는 수단일 뿐 그 자체가 목적은 아닙니다.

연구의 범위는 건축 설계를 넘어 공공 프로젝트, 전시, 영상, 조경, 미술 등으로 확장됩니다. 다양한 프로젝트 등을 통해 실험적 접근이 실제 건축 실무와 어떻게 연결될 수 있는지를 검증하며, 과정을 하나의 건축적 언어로 해석하는 방법을 모색합니다.

전 재 봉 | 부교수, 미국건축사
Jaebong Jeon graduated summa cum laude from Hanyang University, Seoul, and earned his M.Arch II from The Cooper Union’s Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture with a full scholarship. Now an Associate Professor at Hanyang University ERICA, he pursues a research-driven practice that moves fluidly between theory, experimentation, and real-world projects. His work challenges the superficial ease of digital imagery, using drawing, model-making, digital fabrication, and material exploration to investigate how architectural ideas gain depth, agency, and tangible form.

전재봉은 한양대학교 서울캠퍼스를 최우등(summa cum laude)으로 졸업한 후, 쿠퍼 유니언 건축대학(Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture)에 전액 장학금으로 입학하여 건축학 석사 학위 (M.Arch II)를 취득하였다. 현재 한양대학교 ERICA 캠퍼스 부교수로 재직하며, 이론적 연구와 실험, 그리고 실제 설계 프로젝트를 유기적으로 연결하는 건축 작업을 이어가고 있다.

그의 연구는 건축이 단순한 이미지나 결과물에 머무르는 것이 아니라, 다양한 매체와 과정을 통해 형성되는 ‘생성의 과정’에 주목한다. 드로잉, 모형 제작, 디지털 패브리케이션, 재료 실험 등을 적극적으로 활용하며, 개념이 물리적 형태로 구체화되는 과정에서 발생하는 구조적·공간적 가능성을 탐구한다. 이를 통해 건축을 하나의 고정된 결과가 아닌, 지속적으로 변화하고 확장되는 실험적 과정으로 다루고자 한다
