Invisible Forces Shaping the Landscape
This project explores the underlying mechanisms that generate geysers, focusing on the interaction between plate tectonics, heat, and water. Although geyser eruptions appear as momentary surface events, they are the result of long-term geological processes, including crustal movements, magma formation, and seismic activity that create cracks and underground channels.
Water infiltrates these fissures and accumulates in permeable rock layers, forming subterranean reservoirs. Heat transferred from magma chambers transforms this water into high-pressure steam within narrow vertical channels. This buildup of pressure leads to periodic eruptions, revealing the hidden dynamics of the Earth’s interior. The project highlights how invisible geological forces shape visible natural phenomena over time.
